EARLY LIFE

Pissara Umavijani was born in Bangkok, Thailand. She lived in an old traditional Siamese house with her grandma, aunts and parents. Her father, Montri Umavijani, was a Thailand poet. He was a contemporary poet that writes about humanity in the post modern world. Her mother, Chutatip, is a philosophy professor.

Pissara grew up with the freedom to choose whatever she wanted to be in life. She was taught to understand herself and follow her heart. Her house have a garden of tropical fruits like mango and coconuts. There is a banana grove as well as a Lotus pond. She used to play with grasses and leaves of the fruits.

She grew up among people that loved and wear scents. Her mother wears Shalimar and Mitsouko, her father wears Fidji by Guy la Roche and Bergamot perfumes. Her maternal grandmother wears Lavande by Guerlain and 4711 Eau de Cologne while her paternal grandmother wears Tiger Balm. Her aunt love to wear Nina Ricci's l'Air du Temps. She said she learnt to identify each person with their trail of scents and was therefore unconsciously introduced to the world of fragrances at an early stage.

EDUCATION AND CAREER

Pissara studied Communication and Social Psychology in Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and graduated with honours. She further had her Master's degree in the same University. She entered a beauty pageant and won the Miss Congeniality title. She was approached by someone in the movie industry and ended up acting in four Thailand movies.

She has a friend who shared her love for perfumes, especially the vintage perfumes. They studied the composition of perfumes and their scents. They try to disassemble scents and discover the raw materials that makes it up. They studied vintage perfumes like Fracas 1948, Joy 1928 and Narcisse Noir 1911.

They pored over textbooks and recipe book, experimenting with different raw materials. They learnt the meaning of each scents and what each flower represents. They developed a nose for raw materials and gradually learnt how to mix them. She self taught herself on the structures and mechanisms of making fragrances.

After the death of her father, she travelled around a bit and visited Paris on her way. She fell in love with the place. When she got back to Bangkok, she decided to do something in honour of her late father. One day while playing with raw materials with her friend, she made a fragrance called Issara. Issara means the feeling of freedom, just like her own name Pissara that means freedom in Thai.

When she moved to Paris in 2011, she enrolled in EDMOD to study design because it was one of the schools accepting foreign students. She continued making perfumes and was fortunate to meet Michel Chevalier. He convinced her that she could make a brand out of her fragrances. She excitedly went ahead, working on different formulas of making fragrances. That's how the brand Parfums Dusita was created.

Her fragrances are mostly natural, she tries to avoid synthetic materials as much as possible. She says, "I believe we as humans all need to stay connected to nature, these are our roots."

Her favourite perfumers are Edmund Roud itska, Germaine Cellier and Calice Becker. She later met Francois Henin, who gave her the hope of turning her brand into a perfume house. She also studied Luxury Brand Management from Sup de Luxe.
